About

Broads.live Tides is a hobby project inspired by the long running Tide Report page on norfolk-broads.org.

It displays the current tide state on each section of the rivers using animated icons on a zoomable map. It shows a slack water period for an hour around high and low tide times. In practice there aren't exact 'cut off' times between these different states of tide.
The date range for the tide table can be adjusted. Currently a dataset of predictions four years into the future is used.
The animated map display can be adjusted to any point in time within the predictions in the tide table.

Moon phases are displayed by day. Spring and Neap tides are calculated as falling between 36 to 48 hours after the lunar event. The progress bar represents the current extent between the spring and neap tide range.

It uses XTide for tide predictions based on the Lowestoft standard port with secondary port offsets applied for Yarmouth (Gorleston).
Older tidal harmonic data from around 2004, when it was freely available for the UK, is being used. The predictions seem close enough to current for the purposes of the information presented by this site.

The information presented on this site should not be relied upon for navigation. Though it is likely sufficient for the relative calm environment of the Broads. Double check tide information for travelling through Gt Yarmouth and across Breydon Water.
